(CoolAvenues News Wire)

Norway based software group Opera Software today upped its ante in Internet browser market by releasing new version of its web browser named as Opera Web Browser 8 which is build for increased security, simplicity and speed.

Known as the fastest browser on earth, the New Opera Browser is going to address the ever-growing problem of phishing, which has become a major security concern for the e-commerce sites & banking industry. Opera 8 has introduced a new security information field, which gets automatically activated when a visitor goes to a secure web site, indicating the level of security (1-3) and the certified owner of the site. This feature allows users to better evaluate a site's trustworthiness and minimize the risk of being subjected to online fraud, such as phishing attacks.

Apart from security, the new Opera 8 is offering other features such as tabbed browsing, fit to window width, which will allow the web page to fit to the screen of computer irrespective to the screen size, etc. The other notable feature of Opera 8 is voice support, which will allow users to surf the web by using voice commands, and to have documents read aloud, thus enabling people with disability to access Internet effectively.

With this latest launch, the heat is once again back in the Internet Browser market which is witnessing some activity for last one year after the great IE vs. NetScape wars of late 90s. Prior to this, open source Mozilla.org - an open source Foundation - launched Firefox in Sep 2004, which got considerable market attention and has more than 35 million users so far. Moreover, for the first time after the well documented great wars of NetScape-Internet Explorer, the market share of Internet Explorer went below 90% as FireFox grabbed more than 7% market share in 6 months of its launch.

Prior to the launch of Firefox, Opera was No. 2 in the Internet Browser market and was known for its speed and tabbed browsing experience, however, Opera software come with a paid option or a free version with unobtrusive banner compared to IE & FireFox, which are free to download. Opera is aiming to capture 8% of the market share thorough the launch of Opera 8.
