Apple Tiger OS to debut on 29th April'05

April 13, 2005
(CoolAvenues News Wire)

Apple Software, after changing the rule in online music market with iPod & iTunes, is once again set to focus on its traditional business area. Apple’s new OS software dubbed as "Tiger" will be starting shipping on 29th April 2005.

With a price tag of USD 129, "Tiger" has around 200 features including one named as "Spotlight". Spotlight will allow users to find anything on their Mac with ease and will be Apple’s answer to Google Desktop & other host of desktop search tools launched in recent times for Windows OS.

Apart from Spotlight, the other compelling feature for potential OS buyers will be "Dashboard". The dashboard hosts nifty mini-applications called widgets that appear instantly and keep users up to date with timely information like stocks, weather forecasts, flights, convert currency, etc., by accessing internet.

At present, third party applications like Google Desktop Search & Yahoo Alert give Windows OS users the same capabilities as are going to be offered by Spotlight & Dashboard. However, as per Apple, Spotlight & Dashboard are going to offer better user experience, as these two products are directly build into the operating system.

Launch of "Tiger" is being watched by industry in quite a significant manner, as Steve Jobs has dubbed it as the biggest leap forward after the launch of Apple in 1984. Moreover, the launch of Tiger will give analysts an opportunity to see if success of Apple in MP3 market has been able to rub any positive halo for its main offering Apple Mac or not.

For Microsoft, it will see some competition in its OS market after a gap of considerable period. Microsoft dominates desktop OS market with more than 95% share and has been facing some little competition from Open source Linux desktop, which is yet to make any real headway with the users.

However, with Microsoft next generation OS named as "Longhorn" not expected to make debut before 2006, Tiger might take some time to get the world hear its roar.

Concluded.
